Whatman FTA Elute is a device that allows for sample collection, room temperature storage, processing and elution of DNA for use in molecular based amplification technologies such as PCR. As an all-in-one device, FTA Elute eliminates the following:
- Shipping of whole blood collected in tubes
- Freezer storage
- Long sample processing times
- Use of organic reagents to isolate DNA
- Nucleic acid purification devices
In the field of pharmacogenomics and personalised medicine, biological samples are collected for genetic analysis. Samples are then transported to a reference laboratory for analyses.
FTA Elute Provides a Safe and Convenient Sample Collection Methodology
For blood, simply apply one or two drops of blood on to the Card. For non-invasive buccal cell collection, rub the sterile swab inside the cheek for about 30 seconds, and then blot the swab onto the FTA Elute Card.
FTA Elute is virucidal and bactericidal to ensure safe handling of samples
Samples can be sent via regular mail without bio-hazardous classification, significantly lowering costs and simplifying handling.
FTA Elute simplifies DNA purification
Sample processing requires a simple water elution procedure to isolate DNA, eliminating the cost of using a purification kit.
FTA Elute provides long-term archiving at room temperature
Samples inside their pouches can be safely stored in any standard file cabinet or other laboratory specimen storage system for years without sample degradation. When it's time to purify the DNA for downstream applications, simply remove the card from the pouch and use a punch from the card for processing. The remainder of the card can be re-archived for future use.
Customised formats available
Whatman will work closely with your organisation to develop a custom FTA Elute format to meet your needs.
